    Ready Player One

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

I really don't give Spielberg enough credit. I sort of hate the guy. Occasionally. Always call him out. But the man does know how to direct a movie. touche.

That ending was cheesy af. And boy it was nothing like the book. At least the special effects and old school music was good.

Awesome Movie! Earth Wind and Fire - Can't Hide Love @ 40:18 when she asks to meet him at the dance club, nice. The Wizards spell which Morgana stole in Excalibur movie. Fuck it I can't contain my emotions this was a FUCKING AWESOME MOVIE!!! i'm not an avid game player, grew up seeing the progression of arcade movies to home games etc. you get the picture, yep 'ol geezer here with looks of a 35yr old. anyway, great / awesome music, check. great movie references, check. fighting scenes, check. loyalty, check. Love, big check. what can I say but I'm still a kid at heart, never forgotten. big fan of Last Action Hero. people saw it as a flop, what they forget was when we were kids, we would have conversations of what a movie should have to be awesome then when it finally came in Last Action Hero they didn't like it. I've should movie to a lot of kids and They Loved it. pong, space invaders, dragon's lair was my favorite to spend my quarters and non other than Kelbo's Restaurant on pico just one block away from Billingsley's Restaurant. Googled them both and see old pictures.

The movie was pretty solid. I liked lots of the feature of the movie. What I didn't like was how that most of the things from the book were changed in the move. I would give this movie a 4/5.

Nothing like the book, but its still amazing. would have been better if it had more book elements though. (Wade was supposed to be fat and then work out)

Spielberg wants us to drop the techno-gadgets and join hands, but it's the VR world that really juices him. He's the ultimate fanboy making a movie about the need to move beyond being a fan.

    Globe and Mail

    March 30, 2018

So much of Ready Player One is assembled from the detritus of our past that it is less a film and more an overstuffed cultural recycling bin.

A blast of pure childlike amusement.

    San Diego Reader

    March 29, 2018

Life in the OASIS is exciting and wondrous to behold through your avatar's oversized anime eyes, but it doesn't mean much without some real-world stakes, and that's where the film stumbles, badly.

    Wall Street Journal

    March 29, 2018

Haptics weren't needed to feel the emotional pull of his best films; they aimed for the heart and hit much more often than they missed. "Ready Player One" aims for the adrenal gland.

    Toronto Sun

    March 29, 2018

Many of the book's references to Spielberg's cultural artifacts have been stripped away, but he imbibes the movie with flashes of colour and heart that rekindle a sense of wonderment that will transport many viewers back to their childhoods.

    March 30, 2018

Ready Player One is more like a seven-course banquet made up entirely of Pixie Stix and Pop Rocks-you certainly get a rush from it for a little while but once the initial effect, there is not much of anything else going for it but overindulgence.

    Chesapeake Family Magazine

    March 30, 2018

It may be impossible to separate Ready Player One from its references, and without the Easter eggs, inside jokes, and endless homages, Ready Player One doesn't offer much that is unique to itself.
